The Iron offered the striker the chance to double his wages at Glanford Park but it is said Sammon was concerned at the current league position- and returns to Rugby Park with the possibility of facing Hearts on Tuesday evening.
The 24-year-old was in Scunthorpe for talks on Monday afternoon and stayed overnight before giving his final decision, leaving manager Ian Baraclough confident he could secure the Irishman's services.
"We had talks yesterday and Conor went away to have a think about things overnight and talk it through with his family," Baraclough told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
"That's not by going back to Scotland, that's by stopping in a hotel so we could find out an answer."
