Reports yesterday said that Don Rowing who joined the club in 1981 as secretary, has been replaced by Mark Blackbourne.
Blackbourne is a former Director of Football Communications at Sunderland, but was made redundant following their relegation from the Premier League.
But posting on the club's official website Elliott, who joined the club's board of directors three weeks ago, said that Rowing had not left the club.
He said: "Don hasn't left the club and he knows what conversation's we've had, not the press or radio.
"This week has been very strange, everything that has gone on has not been planned and in some instances unexpected.
"The sad thing is Des Comerford walking away when it was Scunthorpe United he was supporting not a director.
"The best thing we arranged was to get the team away on Thursday, away from the papers and the press, from the reports I have had back it has worked."
Simon will be standing with the supporters for this afternoon's Third Division game at Huddersfield Town.
