The Robins lost at Huddersfield on Saturday, and although Ward admitted the Terriers deserved the points he was disappointed at certain aspects of his side's defending.
He knows staying in League One is a tough task for his side, especially after the sale of star players Brian Wilson and Grant McCann to Bristol City in midweek.
"A little club like us cannot match a team like Huddersfield, the best team won on Saturday, mainly because they used the conditions better than we did," admitted Ward.
"I was disappointed at the way we defended for the first goal, we lost our concentration and were punished."
United head to Whaddon Road to play a game that was originally scheduled for Saturday January 3, but was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
They will be without Cliff Byrne and Cleveland Taylor through suspension following their red cards in Saturday's eventful draw with Oldham.
