The defender saw a specialist on Monday and Iron boss Brian Laws is disappointed that Ridley will miss the opening set of matches.

Laws told BBC Radio Humberside: "Lee has a minor hernia which needs to be operated on and we have an indication of him being out of action between six and eight weeks.

"We were disappointed for Lee because he had a fantastic season last year, and he's going to be disappointed because he will miss two weeks of the next season."

Laws may be forced to look for a replacement on loan now as youngster Marcus Williams is the only player left in that position.
