The veteran striker has not played since injuring his knee in the Carling Cup first round win over Tranmere.

But after stepping up his return to training he is likely to find himself on the bench at Oakwell.

Iron boss Brian Laws will have plenty of options for the game, with Richard Hinds available again after a three-match ban for violent conduct.

Matty Sparrow and Ian Baraclough will also shake off knocks to play, though Jim Goodwin is a doubt with a calf injury sustained in the 2-0 loss at Swansea on Tuesday night.

Iron captain Andy Crosby is eligible to play despite facing a one-match ban, as it does not come into effect until the LDV Vans second round trip to Halifax next week.

Barnsley will welcome back goalkeeper Nick Colgan, who has missed their last two games with an ankle injury.

Former Rangers defender Paul Reid should also return after a neck injury, while midfielder Stephen McPhail is not expected to be fit with a knee problem.
