Laws said: "The wind and conditions were awful but what we did in the first half was good, the turning point was not to concede and when you do so late on in the first half that is a turning point.
"We have a good bunch of lads - I've seen them all the way through from the youth team to the first team and i have a lot of time for them. They are like my family.
"They have to try and help each other and the confidence went in some of them when the second goal went in.
"There is a game coming on Tuesday (agaisnt Carlisle), we have to pick them up and get them organised because it is going to be a war."
He also responded to questions about his future by the club by making it clear he understands the problems posed by the league table - which leaves United just six points above the relegation zone.
He added: "I know as a manager you come under pressure and I'm not kidding myself it is a bed of roses.
"It is a difficult situation, we have to turn it round quickly and it is my job to do it. While I still have the confidence of the players I believe it will be turned round soon."
