Nine men, all from Scunthorpe or the surrounding area, were arrested last week - including one man who handed himself in after his picture was printed in the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

The arrests were part of Operation Micus, launched earlier in the season in partnership with the local newspaper.

Eight home stewards were allegedly assaulted in the final ten minutes of October's game at Spotland, with police estimating that around 30 Iron `fans` were involved in the incident.

The entire incident was caught on camera, which has aided identification of the suspects.

Three people were arrested on the day, two of whom have since been banned from attending football grounds across the country as a result.

PC Alan Welsh told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "It is goof to ensure people who do cause violence are arrested and deal with.

"We were always confident we would track them down, it's just a matter of identifying them."
