Newman was speaking after his sides victory at Roots Hall, where he scored the second decisive goal.
“No doubt about it, Scunthorpe are one of the best teams in the division and we have come out worthy two-nil winners," said the ugly little blighter.
“The first goal has come from a corner, the balls hit Corty but he has reacted very well and blasted it in.
"The second one, I was just in the right place at the right time and I gave it a go, sometimes they go over but today it went in.
"I was pleased to see it go in as it gave us the cushion of a two goal lead.”
Although he says he didn't see Steven Clark's headbutt on Nathan Stanton he revealed that his player will be disciplined for the violent conduct which saw him sent off in the dying seconds.
“I never saw it, as we have come in I have asked Steven the question and he has said he put his head to the other lad's head," revealed Newman/
"If he has done that then he is a very silly boy and he will be dealt with internally. He could now miss the last three matches of the season.
"The only blessing in disguise is that the matches will be this season and not next, he will be disciplined internally.”
