Laws has refused to comment on the name or position of the player concerned, but has agreed a deal with his club and spent yesterday showing him a round Glanford Park.
The player concerned is likely to be a centre-back or midfielder, although the likely return of Jamie McCombe from injury could see United with enough options in the back line.
Saturday's draw at Torquay United moved the Iron upto third in the league table, although good results in the next two home games against Rochdale and Darlington are vital if the club are to keep hold of that spot for any length of time.
Laws is hoping that Iron fans will take advantage of the £2 reduction across the board to turn out and boost the side.
Home fans will also be allowed in the `away` end in an attempt to boost atmosphere.
Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I beg our fans to come out in force. The statistics will tell you that whenever a team is at home and attacking their own supporters, then they tend to score. That is where most of the goals come from.
"And if we have got our fans at both ends, then that gives us twice the opportunity. I think it would be a huge encouragement for the players.
"So I am appealing to the fans, let's get down there, bring all the kids and let's just see what the atmosphere can be like because this is something that we have never done before."
One Dale player Iron fans will be keeping an eye on is Lee Hodges, who signed for the Spotland club on a free transfer in the summer.
Their eyes however will have to be aimed at the stands, as `Super Lee` currently cannot even make the subs bench.
He recently asked to leave Dale to try and get first team football, and was promptly dropped with manager Paul Simpson saying that he only wanted players who were committed to the club, and is unlikley to remain in Lancashire
