Murphy was not in the original squad but was called up on Sunday night. He will provide cover for first choice keeper Shay Given, with the no.2 keeper Kieren Westwood pulling out of the squad due to illness.
Giovanni Trapattoni, the Ireland coach, is without several key players for the game - with Robbie Keane, Richard Dunne, Ciaran Clark, Paul McShane, Kevin Kilbane and Caleb Folan all ruled out before the first training session on Monday.
Sean St Ledger and Paul Green were both ruled out on Monday due to illness, while the midfielder Darron Gibson has been excused as his daughter is in hospital.
"We are missing many injured players, but it is important in this friendly game to look at other young players," said Trapattoni.
"The players we know. But, with us, they can increase in confidence and personality. It will be important in the future that these players are available to us."
