The facilities will be built on land owned by Wharton's shipping company.
But local residents have objected to the plans, claiming that increased traffic and noise will be detrimental to the village, they say that the land should be used for farming purposes instead.
However Wharton has insisted the development, which will be quarter of a mile outside the village, will not affect local residents.
He has promised to create embankments and and to plant trees to keep noise to a minimum.
He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "The opposition to the sporting facility seems to have arisen because I would not gift the land to the Parish Council.
"Ideally this would be nearer to Glanford Park but I have my doubts whether or not this can be achieved if we wait for support from the local authority."
A planning application was lodged with North Lincolnshire Council, but they say it can not be dealt with until February.
It is hoped that improved facilitied of some sort will be in place for the start of next season.
