The pair sat out the 1-0 victory as a precautionary measure, and were the only two professionals apart from long-term absentee Richard Kell - still six months away from a full return.
Sparrow had a knock to the knee, while Calvo was suffering from a slight strain.
The match itself saw the Iron battle to victory over the Northern Irish outfit, although with 18 players involved for United it would have been hard to get any fluency, especially in their first match of the pre-season.
Despite taking two trialists from Wolves across with the side, the only trialist to feature was 16-year-old Caolan McGettigan.
McGettigan looks set to have further trials with the Iron, and the right back is likely to travel over to North Lincolnshire in the near future.
Manager Brian Laws however took the positives out of the match.
"It certainly wasn't a great performance by us, but it was a good workout," he told the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph.
"The pitch wasnt really conductive to good football but we now have that game under our belts and can move on from there."
