Yesterdays 1-1 draw at Plainmoor moved United up to third in the league table, the final automatic promotion place, but Iron manager Brian Laws believes that an extra experienced player is needed to keep hold of the place until May.
With quickfire home games against Rochdale and Darlington coming up six points would leave United in a very strong position, but the other teams immediately in the playoff positions have games in hand and pose a strong threat.
As the saying goes though, points on the board mean more than games in hand, and Laws has had experienced forward Bob Taylor at the club on non-contract terms to add some experience to his front line.
YT Paul Hayes has been magnificent in the absence of Steve Torpey, but the experience of Taylor could prove invaluable if United need to grind out a result between now and May.
Experienced Farnborough Town striker Rocky Baptiste could have also provided cover, but his failure to turn up for a reserve game this weeek has ended his chance to impress.
With Jamie McCombe still struggling to retun from a knee injury, Laws may turn his attention to defence where he is also short of cover - with youngster Lee Ridley currently playing at centre back rather than left back.
Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "I have spoken to the chairman and he has indicated we do have the resources if the right man is available.
"I have been looking at a loan deal so we can bring someone in and have a good looka t them.
