Mendieta, Campo and Sparky for Calvo tribute?

The match will see the 1999 play-off winning side, in which Calvo-Garcia scored the winning goal, play against a invitation side.

The exact makeup of the side remains unclear, but Spanish stars such as Gaizka Mendieta, Mikel Arteta and Ivan Campo have been asked to take part.

Wales manager Mark Hughes has also indicated he is prepared to play in the match, as has former Iron favourite Paul Baker.

Richard Mason, who is helping organise the match, told Iron-Bru.net: "Basically if they're Spanish and play in the Premiership they've been invited.

"Real Sociedad was the first choice, but they play on the Sunday and when you take costs into account it was too much."

The match, which will kick-off at 3PM, is in tribute to the Basque midfielder who has been a massive hit after joining from Spanish Second Division club Eibar.

He is out of contract this summer and will retire from football to return to Spain and concentrate on interests outside of football.

There will also be a benefit dinner held on April 6 at the 300-capacity Baths Hall in Scunthorpe, the biggest venue available.

It includes a set by comedian Gary Styner, as well as The Gas Band - who will be playing covers of hits from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

A football memorabilia auction will also take place, including signed shirts, as well as a raffle.

Tickets are £35 each and can be ordered from Richard Mason on 01652 642111, or richardmason@lawlincs.net.
