The Scunthorpe midfielder, 29, is talking his Uefa A Licence coaching badge in Belfast, but the course does not finish until Friday - when he needs to be with the national side.
The Irish Football Association have given him permission to join up with his international colleagues on Thursday and complete the course at a later date.
McCann has 21 caps to his name, making him one of the most experiences players in Nigel Worthington's side.
