36-year-old Mason is the club's third associate director, joining Mark Blackbourne and Jason Oxenforth.
Richard is a solicitor with the well-known local practice of Mason, Baggott and Garton - of which Iron vice-chairman Rex Garton is also a partner.
Mason, who played a vital role in arranging last year's benefit for Iron legend Alex Calvo-Garcia, said: "I was delighted to be offered the position of associate director.
"Being a lifelong fan, I did not need to think twice before accepting this position, and I am really looking forward to being involved in the running of my hometown club."
Club chairman Steve Wharton added: "We are always looking to develop the club on and off the field of play, I see the appointment of Richard as a very positive move."
Mason, who has supported the club since the age of four, hopes to bring fresh ideas to the Board.
