"I've played at this level before, and I know I can do well in this division."
Matty Sparrow is also carrying a slight knock, but should be fit to play, while veteran winger Peter Beagrie is doubtful with a hamstring in injury.
If Sparrow is ruled out, MacKenzie is likely to partner Richie Ryan in the centre of midfield.
Peter Till will play on the right wing if fit from an ankle injury, if not Cleveland Taylor will keep his place.
And Wayne Corden will stay in the starting XI if Beagrie is ruled out.
Brentford manager Martin Allen is likely to name an unchanged side for the game at Glanford Park.
Striker Isaiah Rankin is back to full fitness, but will not feature as he is lacking in match fitness.
