Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws told the club's website: "It's a blow for Neil and comes at a time when he was getting himself back in the frame."
MacKenzie intially moved to Glanford Park on loan from League Two side Macclesfield in November, and signed until the end of the season in the January transfer window.
