The Yorkshire side stuck with the tried and trusted 4-4-2 formation last season, first under Dennis Wise then Gary McAllister.
But McAllister has toyed with several different options so far in pre-season, and is now leaning towards a more attacking 4-3-3 tactic.
Although little can be read into the first games of the summer, McAllister was pleased with the way his players adapted to the new look in games against York City and Bray Wanderers.
"We played a different shape and are looking at different things, I want us to be more adaptable this season," he told the club's official website.
"We stuck to 4-4-2 quite rigidly last season, although when Dougie Freedman came in he brought a different dimension with a deep lying striker."
Leeds are in Ireland for a pre-season training camp. They head to Glanford Park on Saturday August x for the first League One game of the season.
