Laws: We threw the kitchen sink at them

However in the stands, Iron fans vented their frustrations as they saw their side slip to their non league neighbours.

Boos rang around Glanford Park for the second successive game, whilst some joined in with the visitors' 'sacked in the morning' taunts towards the Iron boss, as Grimsby progressed into the next round of the FA Cup.

Laws told the press: “Had we performed like that on Saturday we would have beaten Accrington.

“It was a really good reaction from all of the players, however, people will just look at the results and people will say that that is disappointing and it just was not acceptable.

“The effort and performance that we showed on Saturday was definitely unacceptable but if you see that the players were giving their all and showing a lot of desire then there should be a level of acceptance and you should give them credit for going out there and performing as they did.

“We were camped in their half for the majority of the match. We have thrown the kitchen sink at them and they have defended in numbers.

“When you have something to defend it definitely helps."
