Tommy Johnson hit a late equaliser after Ian Baraclough's drive had set off the revival.
And Laws was left wondering about what might have been.
He said: "I am relieved and disappointed, relieved to have got a point and disappointed not to have won.
"Chesterfield came with a game plan, they sat back and frustrated us, we had a lot of possession but we were not able to get the ball to our strikers.
"In the second-half we had to bypass the midfield, and then they scored from the penalty and most teams would have buckled, we didn't - we kept playing and got on top, it would have been unjust if we'd not got anything.
"We displayed a good spirit out there, there were more positives then negatives, Chesterfield are a good side but thankfully we broke them down."
Chesterfield boss Roy McFarland said: "We are disappointed to have thrown away a two goal lead but on the whole a 2-2 draw is a fair result.
"Scunthorpe were very direct, and although they had a lot of possession they did not create many chances."
