First-half strikes from Richard Hinds and Andy Keogh gave United a 2-0 win over Port Vale on Saturday.

The result means they have picked up 17 points from the opening seven games, and along with Brentford are two points clear of Huddersfield at the top of the table.

Laws said: "We have developed a winning habit and we don't like anything else. We have plenty of enthusiasm but must not get carried away.

"If we can maintain our form, we are heading in the right direction and we have nothing to be fearful of.

"We have stayed solid and raised a few eyebrows, we have a very confident team who are playing to their potential.

"There's a long long way to go but we have set standards, but we must keep our feet firmly on the ground."

Port Vale boss Martin Foyle said: "We conceded two poor goals, the midfield has a job to do, but we were too deep in the first-half, we were miles away.

"However, we must not drop our heads. Tthe last three weeks have been a nightmare with injuries, and several players have not trained all week.

"Our two centre halves coped well but I was disappointed with the set pieces.

"But one positive thing was the effort of Joe Cardle who looked positive on his debut."
