Laws was delighted to see Collins sign a new deal and beleives a player of his calibre will help the Iron push on in League Two, alongside a box to box midfielder.
“I’m surprised he’s still here, but delighted in the same sense,” said the United manager.
“To have a player of his calibre playing in League Two just shows you how he feels about the football club.
“To have the three players we've got now right down the spine of the team has brought a real buzz about the place.
“I think he’s one of the key signings of all. Without doubt, he’s going to be a major player for us next year.”
The Iron may now, once again, turn their attentions to club legend and out of contract midfielder Matt Sparrow.
The Iron's general manager David Beeby met with an unnamed player on Wednesday morning to thrash out terms, whilst Jimmy Ryan is expected to join Chesterfield tomorrow.
