Torpey was shown a straight red for allegedly kicking out at at County defender, if the appeal fails he will have to serve an immediate three-match ban - ruling him out of the glamour FA Cup tie at Chelsea.
Iron boss Brian Laws said: "The referee has seen something that is not on the video. The referee says Torpey kicked the player while he was on the floor.
"We shall appeal and hope the decision is overturned. This took the gloss off a very hard working performance and we could lose a valuable player for three games."
Other than that, Laws felt his side put in a good performance against a side that came to Glanford Park looking to defend.
He added: "I am delighted with the commitment of the players. We battered them in the second-half and it was one-way traffic as they defended in numbers.
"They might have scored with their only chance, we are being too precise but I cannot argue with the effort that my players put in."
County's Ian Richardson commented: "I am delighted to have got a point. Gavin Gordon might have snatched it for us but to come to Scunthorpe and take a point is very good going.
"We defended very well and Rob Ullathorne did a tremendous job for us while Saul Deeney pulled off a couple of fine saves."
