Richard Hinds grabbed a late equaliser after the Cherries had taken a 2-1
This despite Peter Beagrie putting the Iron ahead from the penalty spot after 12 minuttes.
Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws said: "I'm very disappointed not to have collected three points, but it was nevertheless a good point.
"Bournemouth are a good side, they have some players who are very comfortable on the ball and in the first half we got a chasing around, we were getting over-run.
"I thought the penalty may have been harsh. They passed the ball well without hurting us a lot but we tightened up in the second half and stepped up a gear.
"Their goalkeeper has pulled off two stunning saves and I thought we did enough in the last half hour to win the game."
Cherries boss Sean O'Driscoll added: "I thought at times we were excellent and if we'd gone on to get a second or third goal quickly we could have relaxed – but we were never able to do that.
"We dominated the first half after Hayter's goal after giving the ball away early on, but Scunthorpe gambled late on and it paid off. On the whole a draw was a fair result."
