He said: "It was an interesting contest, we played some good attacking football and we thoroughly deserved to win.
"Hopefully a performance like this will act as a springboard to get us back into a position to challenge for promotion.
"We scored some excellent goals and it was a terrific all-round performance against Huddersfield, who are by no means a bad side."
Steve MacLean's hat-trick was his second of the season, bringing his overall tally of goals to 12 for the season.

He added: "I rate him highly, there's a lot more to come from him.
"He has helped himself to his second hat trick of the season and he's now the leading marksman in the division.
"He's disappointed to have only 12 so far. He thinks he should be nearer 20. He's a terrific player and a natural goalscorer.
"We've got him on loan until Christmas and we've already started negotiations with Rangers to keep him until the end of the season. "
Huddersfield manager Peter Jackson said afterwards: "I told the players at half time to keep their discipline, but a rush of blood and a stupid tackle cost us dearly.
"We lost our shape and our defending was appalling."
