Former Scunthorpe skipper Hope is out of contract at Gillingham in the summer, and Gills boss Ronnie Jepson is looking to make drastic changes to his squad in the current transfer window.
He had been reported in the Scunthorpe Telegraph as saying he was 'monitoring' Hope's future at Priestfield, but has now distanced the club from an approach.
He told PA Sport: "I don't know where that has come from. We haven't made a move for him so there is nothing to report.
"We need to thin the squad down before we bring in anybody else."
But according to the Scunthorpe Telegraph recently, he had said: "It's a situation we are monitoring, we are always looking at players with a view to strengthening the team.
"But the sort of players we will be looking to try and bring in are likely to be on a loan basis."
