He told BBC Radio Humberside: "It is a massive reward for the supporters, they were excellent.

"They sang their hearts out from start to finish and made the players perform.

"Without a doubt they were a major influence on the players, we've asked them to put their hands in their pockets and hopefully we've paid them back with some scintilating footall.

"Huddersfield have staretd the season well, I don't recall they were last beaten at home but it was a long time."

Laws went into the game knowing that the Terriers would enjoy a lot of time on the ball, and told his players to be prepared for that.

He said: "We use a lot of Prozone now to analyse and find weakness in the opposition, and we did our homework on them.

"We knew they'd have a lot of possession, but they didn't hurt us. We kept solid with two banks of four and when you've got lads like Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh up front you can attack with real venom.

"We allowed them possession, but once it got to our box really tightened up and didn't let them create chances. We had the legs on them, especially in the last third of the game.

"I thought we should have scored more, but it will raise a few eyebrows for sure.

"We wanted to start the season well, but no-one owuld have expected what we've done so far.

"But we have got to keep our feet on the gounrd, we've done nothing yet - but hopefully teams will give us a bit more respect. The win was emphatic, we deserve that."

The win moved United to the top of the League ahead of the fixtures on Saturday and Sunday, an incredible position to be in for a side who were ranked as 50/1 title outsiders before the start of the season.

And while most Iron fans are just concerned about staying up, for what would be the side's highest League finish since the 60s, Laws is just hoping the form can keep up.

He added: "I don't know how long (we'll go on for), but we'll give it a good try.

"We've got Andy Butler, Jim Goodwin, Lee Ridley and Steve Torpey out - all good players, but its it's going to be hard to get back in the side as the players in at the moment are playing as a team and with confidence."
