United had to wait until the 90th minute to finally force the ball into the net, with top scorer Billy Sharp scoring to seal a 1-0 success.
And it was a case of justice being done, after Scunthorpe had dominated proceedings - and the visitors hadn't managed a shot on goal in the entire game.
Laws said: "I thought we deserved it, this was not an end of season game, it was a very high tempo game, our attitude was right, we set our goals and the players have given me that.
"We had some good chances but I thought it was not going to be our day, we just could not find the killer punch in the first half.
"Some of our movement and interchange of passes was excellent. Blackpool would have settled for a point and will go away gutted.
"We didn't approach the game with a holiday feeling and there was a great atmosphere from a big crowd."
Blackpool's Simon Grayson added: "I'm disappointed, we looked an average team, we defended well all afternoon but switched off in the 90th minute.
"Football can give you a nasty kick in the teeth and it did, a point and we could have enjoyed the week ahead, mathematically we could have been safe.
"The performance was not up to standard, we did not play with any freedom. I am still confident and positive we shall stay up and I'd rather be in our position than the teams below."
