The signing of Ryan is set to be completed by the end of the week and Laws feels the young Irishman's signing is a real coup.
"I am expecting Richie Ryan to sign his contract in the next 24 hours and he has got class," Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
"Richie is a player that I have a lot of time for and he will turn out to be a great acquisition for us I am sure.
"He was unlucky when we brought him in on loan that Ian Baraclough and Kell had been in such outstanding form, that was the only reason he didn't get a first team chance.
"But I do want to bring in another midfielder as well as Richie and that is something I have been looking into since the end of last season."
