Laws told the club's official site: "We've made the first connection with them and they have been very helpful with us.

"They have invited me up there to meet their manager and if we can develop this into a long term relationship then that will be great for Scunthorpe United".

The potential partnership has come about after Iron chairman Steve Wharton met Rangers chairman David Murray during business dealings.

Laws was also keen to talk up the ability of young McLean.

"Rangers have high hopes for the player, but they want him to go out and gain some experience.

"They have allowed us to talk to him, the player wants to go out on loan, so there is a chance that we could take him.

"The player wants to come and have a look round and we want to play him in a game and see what he can do.

"I've had alot of recommendations, I've spoken to a lot of people about him and they all say he's a goal scorer".

He is likley to play at least 45 minutes of tomorrow's friendly against Nottingham Forest at Glanford Park, which kicks off at 3pm.
