Laws was unveiled as Owls boss on Monday, with Russ Wilcox also heading to Hillsborough as his assistant.
"It is hard to leave somewhere where I have been so happy," Laws told Iron-Bru.net.
"I guess it is the end of an era, but the start of an exciting new chapter. Thanks to all the fans for their support."
Laws spent almost a decade in charge at Glanford Park after initially joining as a player under Mick Buxton, and believes his time in North Lincolnshire has set him up perfectly for a tilt at a higher division.
"I'm not fazed by the job, I've learned the ropes and made my mistakes in the lower leagues," he admitted.
"I've applied myself in every position possible, I've even been a groundsman rolling the pitch for the players.
"I'm prepared to dig deep and do the dirty work. The tradition here is about good flowing football, I've been trying to produce that in my career."
