Laws happy with point under circumstances

The Iron defence was left standing following a second half substitution allowing Northern Ireland international Stuart Elliott to equalise an earlier penalty conversion from Peter Beagrie.

Laws said: "This was everything you expect from a local derby, but it could have been so different in the opening seconds if Elliott had scored for City.

"Under the circumstances it is a good point for us to have but conceding the equaliser in which it came about was very disappointing.

"Jamie McCombe, and I've got to be very careful about how I put this, has had an absolute stinker but he has recovered and got through the game.

"That is credit to Jamie, he got through the game and that was important because he needed that.

"Andy Butler was absolutely magnificent. He has done his job today and other peoples. He is the best prospect for us, from a defensive point of view, we have had for a long time."

Hull City manager Peter Taylor was also happpy to settle for a point from the game.

He said: "The players put in a really committed performance and in a local derby we have got to do it for the fans.

"I was pleased we kept MacLean quiet and Torpey is always a handfull. It was a very committed performance, fast and physical from two good sides."

But Taylor remained unconvinced over the second half penalty awarded to the Iron after an apparent trip on Steve MacLean.

He said: "I have asked to see the referee afterwards, for me it didn't look a penalty and I was very disappointed with the decision."

Brian Laws begged to differ, he added: "It looked quite clear to me."
