United took all three League One points thanks to a 2-0 victory at Glanford Park.
A lacklustre opening half was ended with Ian Baraclough scoring four minutes before the break.
The Iron stepped up a gear in the second period, with Matty Sparrow sealing a home win.
Laws said: "This was a fantastic win and we deserved it, particularly because of the way we played in the second half.
"We were a bit nervous in the first half when Hartlepool played well. Neither side wanted to lose but we finished comfortable winners."
Laws also believes one more win would secure survival in League One - which would be Scunthorpe's highest league position since the 1960s.
He added: "We are now a step closer to surviving. This is a very tight division, there's not a lot between 14 clubs and the quicker we get to 50 points the better."
