Goals from Glynn Hurst and Gaivn Gordan consigned a below-par United to defeat, allowing Yeovil to move three points clear at the top of League Two and Swansea to move level on points.
An unhappy Laws said: "That was our worst performance of the season and I can't believe it.
"Sometimes you get one or two off the boil, but that was the entire team and Notts were better than us from start to finish.
"I would never have expected us to play as poorly as that and I am not happy. Our defence was caught square for both goals and that's the first time I've seen that in 28 matches.
"We need to get this out of our system so we will go back to basics and focus on defending from the front in training this week."
County player-manager Ian Richardson said: "I've said it before and I'll say it again, the lads have worked their socks off since I took over and never more so than today.
"It's very hard to pick a man of the match because they all did well. They did everything I asked of them and everything we worked on during the week.
"We got a lot more balls in the box and created chances. In fact we created so many in the first half I was actually disappointed when we only went in one up at half time."
