Laws doesn't know what Torps is worth

Subscribers to the club's official SMS message service, including Iron-Bru.net, were woken up yesterda by the following message;

"B.L has confirmed that S.Torpeys name has been circulated to clubs as United try 2 raise funds 2 bolster the squad but insist he hasnt been transfer listed."

Speaking to the club's official website later in the day Lawsy said that he is not unhappy with the player and that the club are not uunhappy with his contribution to the side at all.

“We know that Andy Dawson could be sold, along with Nathan Stanton and Jamie McCombe," said Laws.

“I am just finding out whether there is any interest for the likes of Steve Torpey or any other player and if there is what kind of figure can we get.

“It is a pure financial decision and I have spoken to the player at length about it and he fully appreciates the situation.

“There is no way he will be leaving here if the deal isn't right for both club and player -he is certainly not transfer listed.”

Nathan Stanton and Andrew Dawson have both been linked with a switch to Cardiff City, while Jamie McCombe is being chased by a host of Premiership clubs including Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

Torps joined united from Bristol City in 2000, but was too late to have any impact on the Iron's impending relegation to the third divsion.

Since then he hasn't found the back of the net with as much regualrity as had been hoped, and will start this season suspended after being sent off for stamping on a player.

There is a sense of deja vu in this, as he missed the opening games last season serving a suspension for a sending off - that time though it was for an elbow rather than a stamp.
