Laws said: "The football we played was exceptional. Cambridge are a good side and nobody has taken them apart like we have done and we have also kept a clean sheet.
"It was another terrific performance up front - that was Steve's third hat-trick of the season. Unfortunately every goal he scores makes it more diffcult for us to keep him on loan beyond the start of the New Year.
"We are doing everything we can to persuade Rangers to let him stay but when he scores goals like this he will attract some interest from other teams.
"At the moment he is just enjoying his football and is with us for at least another seven weeks."
Cambridge boss John Taylor, who played the whole of the second half, was furious at his side's performance.He said: "It was not acceptable, I am very upset and the players will be in on Sunday for extra training and to look at the video."
