Laws clutching at straws

A dire performance by United, not helped by Lawsy refusing to change things round even though certain people were under performing even by Sunday League standards (you know we're talking about you Carruthers).

"We had the lions share of the game. I'm disappointed we've ended up with nothing. I thought we defended really well and we had Lincoln penned in their own half for the last 45 minutes," claimed Laws to our correspondent after the match.

"Their keeper was man of the match which shows how much we were on top. We got lots of crosses in, but we just couldn't finish them off. I can't fault the players for the effort they put in, we deserved more."

Perhaps then Laws would like to explain why Alan Marriott only had three saves to make in the entire game - which works out as over half an hours play to work upto a shot on target.

Speaking seperately to the official SUFC website he said, "I don't know how their player stayed on the park after his challenge on James Cotterill."

Not how Iron-Bru.net saw it to say the least, the term `50/50 ball` comes to mind.

Meanwhile Imps manager Keith Alexander was a happy man after the 1-0 left his side joint third with 13 points from their opening seven games - in stark contrast to United who are only one position above a relegation slot in 22nd position.

"We had to hang on in there but in the end we got a decent result, the lads worked well together and I thought we were good value for our win," he said afterwards.

"We played some good football at times and we showed plenty of determination."
