Laws: Best display of season

Two goals from top scorer Billy Sharp, coupled with a second-half strike from Ian Morris, sealed the comfortable win at Glanford Park.

Laws beamed: "This is a result which we have been threatening at home all season.

"It was the best 90 minutes of football that we have produced this season.

"The decisive goal was the second one from Sharp, coming right on the stroke of half-time. "We could have been three or four goals in front by then with the number of chances we were creating.

"Port Vale struggled to handle our front two of Sharp and the experienced Steve Torpey."

Vale boss Martin Foyle admitted his side were below par, saying: "Scunthorpe looked a good team.

"I warned my players to expect a high tempo game and really we created our own problems with a poor defensive display in the first fifteen minutes that gave them command.

"We never looked like getting back into the game.

"But we have made a good start to the season and now we have a choice. We can either feel sorry for ourselves or move on.

"I want to move on and forget this performance, and look ahead to the weekend and be positive."
