Beagrie was lucky to stay on the pitch after clashing with Holt, with the referee only showing him a yellow card.
He was subbed off by Laws, who admitted his star winger was out of order.
Laws said: "Peter had been caught, and caught the Rochdale player as he got up off the ground.
"But you can't use your head as a battering ram, and we decided he should come off soon after the incident because the crowd was getting wound up as well.
"He should have known better. But when you are out there with the adrenalin flowing, the first thing you think about are the consequences. I feel the referee got his decision right.
"We knew this would be a hard game for us and I would have settled for a point gained before the game, so I have to be delighted we got one.
"We are still up there and Yeovil's home defeat was a big boost to our promotion hopes.
"The result at Yeovil was a surprise, but this is the time of year that nerves catch up with everyone.
"I didn't feel we played with nerves, but we still have some big games to come.
"I will try to bring someone in before the transfer deadline to increase the size of the squad, but I will not be unhappy if I don't get anyone, as the lads are doing really well."
Rochdale boss Steve Parkin will also try to beat the transfer deadline. But is happy enough with the players now at his disposal.
He said: ''My team is now very competitive. We have had a run of big games and have only been able to change things round a little bit due to the small size of our squad.
"I will try to get someone in before the deadline, but if I can't get anyone we will carry on battling with the lads we have.
"Fatigue has shown a bit in the last few games, but we have already come a long way this season."
