Andy Keogh put United ahead with a first-half strike at Millmoor, but Will Hoskins levelled after the break for a point the home side more than deserved.
Laws reflected: "At least it gives us the point that makes us safe and now I can start planning for next season.
"I knew Rotherham would throw everything at us and I thought we dealt with it pretty well. I was confident we could get a result.
"We nearly got the second goal and that would have killed the game off. I am disappointed but on reflection a draw might be the right result."
Rotherham manager Alan Knill, a former Iron defender, said: "I always thought the relegation battle would go to the wire.
"And in the end we will take a point, though we had enough chances to win three games.
"I thought we were excellent against a pretty tough team. Scunthorpe did not have a kick in the first half but we went in a goal down.
"We took the game to them in the second half and the goal was no more than we deserved.
"It keeps us out of the bottom four and if we are there at the end of the season that is all that matters."
