Iron manager Alan Knill hopes to conclude a permanent signing and a long-term loan before the closes on Wednesday night.
The permanent signing is believed to be the Bury midfielder Damien Mozika, who worked with Knill at the Shakers and is believed to have handed in a transfer request.
United have reportedly had two bids turned down for the 24-year-old, with the Bury chairman Brian Fenton confirming on Tuesday night that no fee had yet been agreed.
Knill has confirmed the permanent signing will involve paying a transfer fee.
"We're looking for players in all areas because when you're short of numbers you become short of competition," Knill told the club's official website.
"The last thing I want is someone to feel comfortable in the first team. I want a squad that I'm comfortable with and in which everyone there can jump into the first team when I need them to."
