The 19-year-old Irishman has had a remarkable season, hitting 14 goals in a remarkably fruitful partnership with Billy Sharp, and has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet at Glanford Park.

And on Sunday night he will be at the City West Hotel in Dublin to find out if he has beaten Bolton's Joe O'Brien and Manchester United's Paul McShane to be named the 2005 FAI Irish Player of the year.

The Dublin-born forward was bought for £50,000 last season after impressing in a loan spell from Championship side Leeds United.

Iron manager Brian Laws told the SUFC website: "Andy has been having a fantastic season for us and has forged a great partnership with Billy up front.

"It would be fantastic to see Andy get the award. He deserves it as he has proved he can score at this level, and I believe he is capable of scoring at a higher level."
