Johnson played 80 minutes for the Iron reserves in last night's 3-2 defeat to Hull City, but Wilcox insists he will be gently eased back into action.

He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "To be fair, we've got six strikers, so there's no point in rushing him back. We can ease him back.

Despite the defeat United impressed, with Johnson, Peter Beagrie, Andy Keogh, Richie Ryan, trialist Phil Stamp and loanee Evan Horwood all performing well.

The Iron's goals came from Beagrie (penalty) and Michael Rankine.
