Boss Brian Laws is searching for a loanee to bolster the backline after an ankle injry to Andy Butler which could keep the youngster out for over a month.
With Mark Jackson allowed to join Kidderminster on a free transfer, Laws is left with few defensive options.
There have been suggestions from fans on the Iron-Bru.net messageboard that Torpey could be played at the back, with new signing Andy Keogh partnering Paul Hayes up front.
But the club's record signing said: "I played at the back when I was younger but I think we have got enough cover with Stev(Angus) coming in.
"The transfer deadline has not gone yet so I am sure the manager would rather bring someone in than play me there."
