The 29 year old centre-back put pen to paper on a two year deal today at Carrow Road.
Norwich's assistant manager Ian Butterworth confirmed that there was interest from Championship sides, but beleived the lure of playing infront of crowds in excess of 20,000 tempted Nelson to join them.
"He had spoken to a couple of Championship clubs and a couple of other clubs in League One", Butterworth told Norwich's official website.
"So that's a positive step for the football club that someone has chosen Norwich. I think the lure of playing in front of 20,000 people and having a nice place to live came into it and Norwich gives you that."
