The 19-year-old was in the final year of his YT scholarship at the Tigers, but has been released to join the Iron.
He is expected to stay at Glanford Park until the end of the season, and has played in United's last two reserve games as a trialist.
Iron boss Brian Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "Ashley is a good box-to-box players who is very much in the same mould of (former player) Richard Kell.
"He is not for now, but he could be one for the future."
