He has joined United on a month's loan, and is likely to make his debut against Kidderminster on Saturday.
Iron boss Brian Laws hopes to sign three new players this week, with Jon Walters set to join from Hull on loan.
The 21-year-old striker will arrive at Glanford Park on Tuesday to conclude the deal.
Teenage striker Andy Keogh, who strarted the season on-loan at the club from Championship side Leeds, has also been widely linked with a return.
He is currently on loan at Bury from Leeds, but he showed plenty of promise in his spell in North Lincolnshire - although it was cut short when he was recalled for first-team action at Leeds.
United put in a bid for an unnamed striker last week, and although they will not reveal the name of the player they have admitted he currently plays for a Championship club. Keogh fits that description.
Laws is also hopeful of bringing a third player to the club, once more utilising the loan system. This could see three new faces in the squad to face relegation-threatened Kidderminster on Saturday.
He told the Scunthorpe Telgraph: "I hope it's going to be a busy week on the transfer front, but we had a busy week last week too.
"Nobody can ever accuse the football club, the chairman or myself of not attempting to try and spend money.
"But I've stressed it before to the supporters and I will again, whilst we have got money, we have to spend it wisely."
