Iron set to strengthen further

Laws has already made four signings in Richard Hinds, Richie Ryan, Jim Goodwin and veteran Tommy Johnson, and wants to strengthen the squad even further.

Laws said: "I'm still looking to bring in another striker and, depending on Nathan Stanton's recovery, another defender.

"Tommy's certainly not going to be the last. Andy Parton has joined Stalybridge and we'll get compensation for that.

"I don't know the amount yet, but we'll receive some for Paul Hayes as well and we plan to reinvest it in our squad."

24-year-old Stanton still hopes to sign a new deal once he has proved his fitness, he has been out with a knee injury since January.

Iron director Simon Elliott, speaking on the club's official website, said that cash is available for more signings and he was also delighted with the club's summer acquisitions so far.

"There's money left for some more signings, and we await the tribunal for Hayes," said Elliott.

"We have a couple of players keen to come that we have been talking to since the end of the season."

"I've spoken to a couple of influential people in the game, and both reckon Tommy Johnson is a real good signing for us, and will get us goals.

"Ryan and Goodwin are great signings for us and Andy Keogh will play a big part next season too."
