Adkins is forced into at least one change as the captain Izzy Iriekpen is out for two weeks with a groin injury - earning Mirfin a recall for his second appearance since joining the club from Huddersfield Town earlier this month.
He will be hoping Saturday goes better than his debut - when he was red carded just 10 minutes in against Walsall.
Iriekpen's absence also means speculation over who will wear the captain's armband at Edgley Park.
Adkins has narrowed it down to Byrne or the goalkeeper Joe Murphy, with Byrne appearing to be the obvious choice having displayed strong leadership qualities on the pitch already this seaosn.
The forward Ben May is available for selection following a knee injury.
